Art Education Philosophy
My role as an art educator is to assist and challenge students to build healthy relationships with themselves, other people, and the world around them.
Outside of school, students are experiencing their own joys and sorrows of life. The art classroom gives them the space and tools necessary for self-expression. Students of all ages have a desire to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and ideas - they've just been waiting for someone to ask. Artistic expression has personally been a wonderful way to cherish, cope, heal, and develop throughout my life, and I love to help students find their own paths to do the same.
Art education helps grow curiosity and a lifelong love for learning. The unique kinesthetic, tangible opportunities of art-making help students develop motor skills, spatial-awareness, and mindfulness. Intellectual skills are refined through visually exploring multidisciplinary topics. Maturity and self-responsibility are gained through communication and critique. In the art room, student voices are heard.
